Do you offer a direct billing?
Yes! With a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, Taylor is able to offer direct billing services for your convenience. This allows session fees to be billed directly to your insurance provider, reducing your out-of-pocket costs and simplifying the payment process. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm coverage for Registered Social Work (RSW) services, as plans vary.
Where do forest walk and talks take place?
All our Forest Walk and Talk sessions take place at Niagara’s Heartland Forest, where we are proud to be partners. This beautiful, fully wheelchair-accessible location provides a peaceful setting for gentle walks that encourage connection with nature. Sessions are available from April to November, weather permitting.
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy that is used as a treatment to help individuals better manage various mental health challenges and conditions. Although “psychotherapy” and “counselling” are often used interchangeably, they are different practices! Unlike counselling, which often focuses on short-term issues and provides practical advice, psychotherapy tends to dive deeper into the root causes of emotional and psychological challenges, making it a powerful tool for long-term healing and personal growth.
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a form of psychotherapy in which an individual talks to a trained social worker or therapist to help find applicable strategies to deal with strong emotions, trauma, or distress. Although counselling is most commonly associated with solving short-term issues, it can take many forms. Like many psychotherapies, counselling plays a vital role in supporting us through various life challenges to find better coping strategies!
What approaches to care do you use in your sessions?
Taylor Burciul tailors her approach to each individual’s unique needs and goals, integrating a range of evidence-based therapies. She draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with a somatic focus, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-focused therapy, family systems therapy, narrative therapy, attachment-informed approaches, and flash therapy. By blending these methods, she provides personalized support that fosters healing, growth, and resilience.
is Counselling or psychotherapy Right for me?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about how to navigate life’s challenges, counselling or psychotherapy may provide the support and guidance you need. Whether you’re struggling with stress, anxiety, grief, or a reproductive trauma or loss, therapy offers a safe, non-judgmental space. Therapy can allow you to explore your thoughts and emotions and can also help you develop coping strategies, gain deeper self-awareness, and foster personal growth. Everyone’s journey is unique, and therapy can be a valuable tool for anyone seeking clarity, healing, or change. If you’re unsure whether it’s right for you, consider booking a consultation to discuss your needs and goals!
What is a doula?
Not to be confused with a midwife, a doula is a trained professional who is equipped to provide physical, emotional, and educational support to individuals before, during, and shortly after childbirth. The primary goal of having a doula’s support during a birthing journey is to ensure you or your child-bearing partner feels informed and confident, contributing to the healthiest and smoothest experience possible.
Do you offer support for those who have experienced pregnancy loss?
Yes, I specialize in counselling for individuals and couples navigating reproductive trauma and loss. My sessions create a safe, compassionate space for individuals to process their emotions, strengthen connections, and find pathways to healing.
Can I combine counselling and doula services?
Absolutely! Many clients find it helpful to integrate mental health support with doula care, especially when navigating significant life changes like pregnancy, childbirth, or loss. My services specialize in customizing unique care plans that addresses both your emotional and practical needs to ensure a hollistic approach to your wellness.
What do your “Pregnancy and loss” services address?
We understand that loss comes in many different forms,. Our pregnancy and loss services provide compassionate support for those navigating struggles with fertility, miscarriage, baby loss, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, and the complex emotions that come with these experiences. We also offer guidance for those grieving the loss of abilities to be a child-bearer, or bonding loss.
Why is holistic care important?
Rather than focusing solely on symptoms or individual challenges, holistic care takes into account the whole person — the mind, body, and emotions. By addressing all aspects of an individual’s well-being, holistic care fosters a sense of balance and connection, leading to more sustainable and meaningful outcomes. Whether pursuing counselling, psychotherapy, or doula support, holistic care ensures that every part of your journey is acknowledged and supported.
What is a trauma-informed approach and how could it help me?
A trauma-informed approach recognizes the profound impact that past experiences can have on your emotional, mental, and physical health. This method focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment where you feel understood and empowered to heal at your own pace. With an emphasis on safety, trust, and empathy, a trauma-informed approach can help explore and process difficult emotions without fear of judgment.
